New England Classic Ranch Renovation Mood Board

Ranch Renovation – Phase One

Every project follows five phases, which are beneficial to both the client and the designer. For our clients, they know exactly what to expect when they hire us to design or renovate their home, like lead times, invoices, and installations. For the designer, these phases help us to track our goals for each project we work on. We strive to accomplish each design with care and efficiency, so these five phases helps us improve with each task.

Phase 1: Design Concept Planning, Sourcing, and Estimating

Phase 2: Presentation, Revisions (if any), and Finalizing Budget

Phase 3: Ordering and Beginning of Construction / Renovation

Phase 4: Furniture Installation and Styling

Phase 5: Revealing Your Home as it Should Be

The Ranch Renovation in September 2021 yet we’re still in Phase 1 (yikes). From delayed engineering to expired building variances, this project was placed on hold for a few months. But we’re breaking ground in the Spring for the garage addition, including a new 1/2 bath and laundry room, and renovating the attached mudroom.

(Note: we always recommend having up-to-date permits and variances at the start of renovations to ensure the project can run smoothly and in a timely manner. And to avoid price increases!)

As it was, the mudroom boasted little functionality besides the main entrance to the home. Our clients have a lovely collection of antique and well-loved furniture that we’ve incorporated into the mudroom designs. Our primary goal was to make this space a welcoming environment to step into from the garage, but also give it a purpose. At the beginning of the pandemic, one of the clients began working from home in makeshift office in the basement. And then the office became permanent when their job stayed remote. We saw the opportunity to bring the office into the mudroom (and the daylight) for a longterm, comfortable work environment. We’re also creating a small sitting area, essential to a great mudroom, for putting on shoes on the way out or as a drop zone on the way in.

Our clients are most looking forward to the added 1/2 bath-and-laundry-room space going in with the garage build. It’s normal for ranch style homes to feature just one bathroom and basement laundry. One-floor-living is important to our clients so we extended the planned bathroom space to include a laundry closet. With classic wood tones, traditional printed wallpaper, and continuous flooring from mudroom to bath, this addition is sure to feel like it’s original to the home.

We’re excited to see this project come to life! Get on our email list for updates and photos as we go along. Subscribe here!
